A pretty good start depending on how you look at it. Weather wise it was kind of chilly and overcast the first day but otherwise it became sunny and warm the rest of the week. I was telling people along the way that I would rather have it dry and warm than cold and wet. I’m not 100% sure that is entirely accurate. The heat in the afternoons gets to be pretty brutal and really zaps the energy out of me. I have been getting up earlier in the hopes of making some good time and distance before it gets too warm.
The other way to look at it is that I have not been making the distances for which I had hoped. According the handy spreadsheet that I have made my average right now is only 38 miles a day. I know that I have to be realistic and know that an average is just that and not to worry about the distances. It is too early in the ride to start picking apart what and how I am doing things.
One of the things I do like is stopping and talking to people about the ride and tell them about Ride 2 Recovery. I do get a bit of a mental boost after talking to people and it helps me push on. Of some of the people I met this week I want to say hi and thank you to Antti, Cliff, Lorene, Cody, Alex, Karen and Jackie for being so nice and helping me out with your words of encouragement.
The discouraging part is the fact that, at the time of this posting, only one person that I have talked to has donated to R2R. (You know who you are and again a BIG thank you!!!) Between family, friends and coworkers I had hoped to have more donations to R2R. I can only hope that in time the donations will start to come in and my efforts will start to show some results.
In the mean time I am working on getting some of the pictures I took this week upload. They should be in gallery shortly after this post is up.
See you out on the road.
